Celebrating 155 Years of Maria Montessori
This year marks 155 years since the birth of Dr. Maria Montessori (1870–1952). Born in Italy as one of the country’s first female physician, Montessori went on to revolutionize education through her scientific observations of children.
In 1907, she opened her first Casa dei Bambini (Children’s House) in Rome, where her pioneering method was developed. Montessori believed that children learn best when given freedom within a prepared environment, guided by their natural curiosity and inner drive to grow.
Her vision of education—respecting the child as an individual, fostering independence, and nurturing a lifelong love of learning—continues to inspire teachers, parents, and schools around the world.
As we celebrate her 155th birthday, we honor not only her legacy but also the children whose lives have been shaped by her groundbreaking work.
